The United States Coast Guard cutter Eagle arrived in Bermuda today as part of its 2017 cadet summer training deployment.

At 295 feet in length, the Eagle is the largest tall ship flying the stars and stripes and the only active square-rigger in US government service.

With more than 23,500 square feet of sail and six miles of rigging, the Eagle has served as a classroom at sea to future Coast Guard officers since 1946, offering an at-sea leadership and professional development experience.

While in port, cadets from the Eagle will work on a service project at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo and have the opportunity to explore Bermuda’s natural beauty and visit Oracle TeamUSA at Dockyard.

The ship will also be open for free public tours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 7pm.

The summer 2017 deployment spans four months, stopping at 13 ports, including Bermuda and the Bahamas.
