Become a Volunteer

If you’re willing to give your time, we have a volunteer opportunity for you!

BZS volunteers offer invaluable support to the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo (BAMZ). They work with our staff through the week and on weekends. Volunteers help with animal diets, special events, animal feedings, educational and conservation activities—but most of all, they have fun.

A roster of almost 300 volunteers assist staff seven days a week as tour guides in the Aquarium, Museum & Zoo, as assistants in the Education Department.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to participate.

We provide training for volunteers. For most positions, we require applicants to commit to a minimum of six months. (Several programmes require shorter commitments and allow for a more flexible schedule.)

We offer volunteer opportunities in the following departments:

  • Administration
  • Aquarium
  • BAMZ Ambassadors
  • Corporate Days of Giving
  • Education
  • Gift Store
  • Interpretation
  • Library
  • Local Tails Exhibit
  • Museum
  • Special Events
  • Storytelling
  • Turtle Scrubbing
  • Zoo Assistants

Junior Volunteer Programme

BZS offers a special programme designed for students aged 14 to 17 years. The programme requires a year-long commitment and allows students the opportunity to volunteer in all areas of BAMZ. They also take part in community conservation projects, field trips and educational activities.

This highly competitive programme runs from October to June. Participants must commit to a Saturday or Sunday morning each week for the entire programme.

Recruitment and interviews take place annually in September. Spaces are limited.

Apply online for the Junior Volunteer Programme between August-September each year.
