Flamingos on the move
Royal Gazette

His Excellency the Governor Mr. George Fergusson launches Bermuda Zoological Society's
"Flamingo Flocking" fundraising campaign on the Government House lawn. Funds from the
month-long campaign support BZS environmental education programmes for children.

Plastic flamingos will be paying surprise visits across the Island this month — as they move on from their starting point on the lawns of Government House.

The Bermuda Zoological Society is deploying its fund-raising flock of model birds replicating one of the top attractions at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo (BAMZ).

The colourful plastic birds can be hired for a day to appear on the lawns or office lobbies unsuspecting targets.

You can even buy Anti-Flocking Insurance, to help out BMZ and ensure that the migrating flock doesn’t come to roost in your front yard.

Governor George Fergusson launched the event yesterday with the cutting of a hot-pink ribbon at his new residence.

Throughout the month, the plastic birds can be booked for $70 at residences, $250 at companies — or, for $1,000, the entire flock of 150 can be hired.

To take part, call the Flamingo Flocking Hotline at 293-2727 extension 2130 or e-mailbzsflamingoflocking@hotmail.com. Crews will deliver the birds at evening, where they will remain for 24 hours before flying on.

The money raised will go toward educational programmes for the BZS.
