Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS) today announces that it has dedicated a waterfront section of land at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo (BAMZ) to the Argus Group in recognition of the insurance company’s ongoing support.

The dedicated area, known as the ‘Coastal Walkway,’ is situated on the BAMZ facility adjacent to the ‘Islands of Australasia’ exhibit. The dedication of the ‘Coastal Walkway’ is in recognition of the support the Argus Group provides to the Bermuda Zoological Society, thereby ensuring the continuation of important conservation-education programmes offered free to more than 6,000 children every year.

These include science lessons in BZS classrooms, visits to local schools, weekend nature encounters and holiday camps, plus field trips to reefs and national parks around the island.

Through its charitable giving, the Argus Group helps advance the shared mission of BAMZ-BZS “to inspire appreciation and care of island environments.”

Principal Curator of BAMZ, Dr. Ian Walker, acknowledged Argus’ support:  “We would like to thank Argus for their continued corporate sponsorship. Without the support of companies like Argus we would be unable to provide our free conservation education programmes to all the island’s school children.”

Alison Hill, Chief Executive Officer, the Argus Group, added: “As a local company, Argus takes its responsibility to give back to its community very seriously. We have been operating in Bermuda for more than 60 years so the dedication of the ‘Coastal Walkway’ to Argus represents our long history on the island as well as our commitment to its future environmental sustainability.”

The ‘Coastal Walkway’ is open for visitation at BAMZ, seven days a week (excluding Christmas Day) from 9am until 4pm. For more information, call 293-2727.

BZS is the support charity for Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo, funding a full slate of education programmes, conservation and research projects, exhibits and community outreach events. BAMZ is a Bermuda government institution within the Department of Conservation Services.
