Three Flippered Turtle Released Into The Wild

Friday, February 07, 2014

After over a year of recuperating at the Bermuda, Aquarium, Museum & Zoo [BAMZ] after losing a flipper, a green sea turtle was released into the wild recently, dropped off about five miles east of Bermuda.

Two weeks ago the BAMZ staff said farewell to “Squirt” — aka “Three Flippers” — after spending over a year helping him to overcome his injuries.

He has grown to over 4x the size he was when he was brought in to BAMZ in late 2012 after suffering a serious injury which resulted in his losing his front left flipper.

The Green Sea Turtle, as well as a juvenile Loggerhead Turtle, were ferried out on The Endurance boat to a location about five miles east of Bermuda and released into a large patch of Sargasso seaweed.
