Round-the-Sound Raises $6000 For Charity
Bernews
Monday, May 05, 2014

The Annual Round-the-Sound Charity Swim  blends incredible natural beauty with the opportunity to raise funds for local charities.

Each year, the event raises funds for local charities, and last year, during the event’s 23rd running held on October 13, the group selected two of the Bermuda Zoological Society’s programmes for sponsorship.

In total, $6000 was raised, with $5,000 going towards BZS Education and $1,000 towards the Bermuda Lionfish Task Force.

Race Committee Chairperson, Patty Hill, and Brian Frick, present the proceeds of the
23rd Annual Round the Sound Charity Swim to BZS Development Officer, Lynda Johnson.

“The event was again a great success,” shared Mrs. Hill, “with a record field of over 330 swimmers completing the various distances ranging from 800 meters to the 10K marathon swim.

“The Round the Sound Swim attracts considerable international attention, with over 150 visiting swimmers flying in for the weekend to take part. They were joined by former Olympic freestyler, Brooke Bennett, who also conducted a clinic for younger swimmers at the National Sports Centre Pool during the weekend, in addition to speaking to students at Whitney Institute.”

According to BZS President Richard Winchell, “Thanks so much to the Round-the-Sound Committee and participants for their support. This is a wonderful event, fun for families both as swimmers and spectators. Harrington Sound is an ideal location, and BZS and BAMZ will continue to do all we can to maintain the health and beauty of this unique body of water.”

The 2014 Round-the-Sound Charity Swim is scheduled for Sunday, 12 October. Details for this years event will be available closer to the date on the Round the Sound website, http://www.roundthesound.bm.
